BANGKOK, Sept 3 (TNA) – The Bhumjaithai Party today submitted a list of 146 members of parliament (MPs) to the House Speaker to formally request a vote for prime minister, following party leader Anutin Charnvirakul’s announcement to form a minority government.
Party Secretary-General Chaichanok Chidchob stated that they are waiting for the Speaker’s decision but will proceed in full accordance with the constitution. He noted that the Speaker considers the matter urgent, as the country requires a new government.
The move came after the People’s Party, the largest party in the House announced its support for Anutin’s prime ministerial bid. The Bhumjaithai Party immediately posted Anutin’s biography on its social media, presenting him as the 32nd candidate for prime minister.

Anutin Charnvirakul, a graduate in industrial engineering from Hofstra University in New York, has a career that spans both the private and public sectors. He began as a production engineer for Mitsubishi Corporation before taking on management roles at several companies, including his family’s construction firm, Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction.
In politics, he has served in multiple government positions. His ministerial career began in 2004 as Deputy Minister of Public Health and later Deputy Minister of Commerce.
More recently, he held the key posts of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health from 2019 to 2023, and then as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior until his resignation on June 19, 2025, when the Bhumjaithai Party withdrew from the government coalition.
He advocates constitutional amendments for greater democracy and amnesty to foster national reconciliation. He is a firm supporter of a democratic system under a constitutional monarchy, according to his profile. -819 (TNA)
