BANGKOK, April 29 (TNA) – Thai and Malaysian authorities have dismantled a major transnational drug trafficking ring, arresting two suspects in Songkhla, Thailand, and seizing 261 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ice).
The network allegedly used Songkhla as a temporary storage location before attempting to smuggle the drugs through Thailand’s southern border provinces en route to a third country.
The successful operation was a collaborative effort between Thailand’s Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) and various branches of the Thai military, bolstered by intelligence sharing with the Royal Malaysia Police. Investigations revealed the suspects had been under surveillance for about a month. They confessed to transporting the seized drugs and admitted to a prior large-scale drug delivery in southern Thailand.
Thai authorities emphasized the importance of international cooperation in combating transnational crime. The joint effort with Malaysian police was crucial in uncovering and dismantling this network operating in the sensitive border region.
This bust underscores the ongoing commitment to prevent Thailand from being used as a transit point for illicit drugs. -819 (TNA)
