BANGKOK, Aug 11 (TNA) – A parliamentary session of representatives and senators collapsed after five hours of their deliberation on an election bill although many representatives and senators were present.
The joint meeting considered the new Section 24/1 of the bill concerning the calculation of list representatives for political parties by dividing votes for list representatives of political parties with 500. Many representatives and senators expressed their disagreement with the calculation method.
The parliament’s card-reading system showed that 366 members of the parliament showed up. The number exceeded half of all 727 MPs by only two persons. Most missing MPs were from Pheu Thai and Palang Pracharath parties and the Senate.
In a roll-call, 403 MPs confirmed their attendance.
Senate President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai who chaired the meeting then let MPs vote on Section 24/1. Only 342 MPs cast their votes and failed to form a quorum. Mr Pornpetch then ended the meeting right away. (TNA)
