SAMUT SAKHON, Feb 2 (TNA) – The authorities ordered the Central Shrimp Market to remain closed until the facilities there and at the nearby migrant dormitory are upgraded to ensure sanitation and hygiene practices.
The new wave of Covid-19 infections occurred at the market in December and the market has been closed since then.
Deputy provincial governor, Theerapat Katchamat signed an order to extend closure for another 15 days from Feb 1-15 to improve sanitation at the market and Sri Muang migrant dormitory in line with the Covid-19 control measures.
Earlier, migrants, working and living there had been screened and infected persons were separated. More disease investigation is under way to search for persons, having close contacts with the Covid-19 patients and at high risks of contracting the virus.
The market must be upgraded to ensure sanitation practices. If trade at the market resumed when the market was not ready to reopen, the outbreak could reoccur.
The buildings and housing facilities are being upgraded to suit the number of residents, which will be limited to prevent the Covid-19 transmission. When the work is completed, the improvement will be proposed to the province’s communicable disease committee for consideration. (TNA)
