BANGKOK, Sept 9 (TNA) — The Ministry of Interior has ordered all provincial governors to round up illegal migrants in a bid to control the coronavirus disease 2019 as it is spreading fast in Myanmar.
Chatchai Phromlert, permanent secretary for interior, said illegal migrants from Myanmar could cause COVID-19 to spread in Thailand and provincial governors must seriously conduct preventive measures.
Governors of provinces bordering Myanmar must intensify surveillance operations to block migrants from illegally entering Thailand and dodging health screenings.
Authorities in such provinces must also set up checkpoints to stop illegal migrants. Besides, officials in all provinces must search for illegal migrants at premises and workplaces.
Mr Chatchai urged general people to report the whereabouts of illegal migrants to local officials or via the hotline number 1567 around the clock. (TNA)
