BANGKOK, August 7 (TNA) – As retail pork prices surge to 10-year high, the Commerce Ministry launches a campaign to offer pork at lower prices to consumers.
In cooperation with the Swine Raisers Association of Thailand, the “Blue Flag” campaign reduces pork price from 170-180 baht to 130 baht per kilogram.
Higher retail prices driven by rising domestic demand as well as exports have prompted the Commerce Ministry’s Internal Trade Department to limit pork exports to neighbouring countries and China.
In the campaign, pork farms sell their products directly to consumers at the much lower price. Starting at the Ministry’s market in Nonthaburi, the retail service will expand to other markets nationwide.
The Ministry also wanted to help people cut their living expenditures, officials say.
Pork prices in many areas have risen since July as demand both in domestic and export markets soars. (TNA)
