BANGOK, Nov 6 (TNA) – The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok hosted an election watch event on Wednesday, gathering diplomats, academics, and representatives from government agencies and businesses to follow the 2024 U.S. presidential election results.
U.S. Ambassador Robert F. Godec highlighted the lengthy campaign process as a vital component of American democracy, describing it as “a national dialogue” between voters and candidates to debate the country’s future direction.
The event featured the U.S. electoral process, with attendees watching live election coverage as results came in. A large map displayed red and blue stars marking states where votes had been counted.
“Many of you have asked when we will know the results I cannot say for certain; it could be soon, or it could take some time, even days,” Ambassador Godec told attendees, emphasizing the importance of ensuring a fair and transparent counting process.
Looking ahead to January 2025, when the new U.S. president will take office, the ambassador reassured that U.S.-Thai relations would remain strong regardless of the election outcome. He noted the two countries’ 190-year diplomatic relationship, with Thailand being America’s first Asian ally.
During his two years in Thailand, he observed growing democratic engagement among Thai citizens, from classroom discussions to community gatherings.
Democracy isn’t just an American value – it’s a universal value that we share with the Thai people, he said.
The ambassador emphasized that U.S.-Thai cooperation in trade, investment, security, education, and people-to-people connections would continue uninterrupted under the next administration. – 819 (TNA)
