BANGKOK, Aug 27 (TNA) – A section of the footpath near the Fai Chai MRT station collapsed on Sunday. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
The sinkhole, estimated to be around two meters deep, appeared beneath the elevated train station. While the exact depth of the cavity remains unknown, its width is significant enough for a person to fall in.
Local authorities from Bangkok Noi district office swiftly responded to the incident, along with representatives from the Department of Public Works, the Bangkok Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, and the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA). The area has been cordoned off to allow for a thorough investigation.
According to initial assessments, the incident occurred near an old drainage canal that had been excavated below the Fai Chai intersection underpass. The sinkhole was located at the base of the elevated train access ramp.
The construction of the drainage system, which is still incomplete, falls under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Meanwhile, the responsibility for the collapsed area lies with MRTA.
Repair work is currently underway to address the sinkhole and ensure the safety of commuters and pedestrians.-819 (TNA)
