CHIANG MAI, Feb 13 (TNA) – Authorities are battling wildfires in the Ob Luang National Park in Chiang Mai as the PM 2.5 levels in nearby areas increase to unhealthy levels.
The wildfires broke out at several locations in the national park in Hot district yesterday.
Firefighters carried out the operation to put out the forest fire on foot and six aircrafts from ministries and the Royal Thai Army were deployed to extinguish the fire in inaccessible areas.
The Royal Thai Air Force’s BT-67 aircraft joined the operation to dump 3,000 litres of water on the blaze to create a firebreak in Chom Thong district.
At least 180,000 rai (about 72,000 acres) of forest has been destroyed by the wildfires in the past four days. Today, firefighters are working to control the blaze in the 23 remaining locations. (TNA)
