CHIANG RAI, Dec 27 (TNA) – A House committee on telecommunications and digital economy and society, the government and the private sector have opened the Space Technology Laboratory in this northernmost province.
The Space Technology Laboratory stands in the compound of Wiang Pa Pao Technical College in Wiang Pa Pao district. It is an advanced center for space technology study, the production of relevant personnel and space technology application for various purposes including solutions to natural disasters.
Many companies supported the establishment of the Space Technology Laboratory, including Thaicom Co, Charoen Pokphand Group, True Corporation and Terospace Co in association with Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency.
Kalaya Roongwijitchai, chair of the House committee, said Chiang Rai was chosen for the Space Technology Laboratory because it faced many environmental problems including fine dust, runoffs and landslides and space technology could be applied to forecast such problems.
The new facility could also share knowledge on technology with local youths and thus promote educational equality. The model of the Space Technology Laboratory project at Wiang Pa Pao Technical College would be evaluated and then could be applied in other regions of the country, Ms Kalaya said. (TNA)
