CHUMPHON, Jan 17 (TNA) – Thamanat Prompow, secretary-general of the Palang Pracharath Party, admitted loss in the by-election in the southern province and vowed to draw a lesson from it.
Chavalit Athan, Palang Pracharath’s candidate in Constituency 1, received about 32,000 votes which were higher than the votes he had obtained in 2019 but were not enough to win.
Mr Thamanat said the Democrat Party’s candidate had much more votes and he would figure out factors behind the loss and the reasons why the votes of Palang Pracharath’s candidate did not rise significantly from 2019.
Mr Thamanat said that rival parties used many strategies and there were unexpected violations to the election law. He vowed to investigate suspicious financial transactions and said his candidate already filed relevant complaints with the Election Commission and police.
Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Police Office reported eight electoral wrongdoings in Chumphon and one case in Songkhla. Cases in Chumphon included damage to campaign posters, shooting at a campaign vehicle and photographed ballots. The case in Songkhla concerned vote campaigns. (TNA)
