BANGKOK, Aug 25 (TNA) – National police chief Pol Gen Suwat Jangyodsuk dismissed Pol Col Thitisan Utthanaphon, chief of the Muang Nakhon Sawan police station, pending investigation into his alleged fatal extortion of money from a drug trafficking suspect.
The national police chief said that there was evidence of the crime which involved 13 policemen and they would be prosecuted.
The legal action followed the accusation that the chief of the Muang Nakhon Sawan station extorted 2 million baht from a drug trafficking suspect and suffocated him with a plastic bag.
Police inspector-general Pol Gen Visanu Prasattongosoth said video clips of the torture indicated that the crime was committed and he would question all people involved in the case. Evidence clearly showed who were at the crime scene and wrongdoers would face criminal action, he said.
Later warrants were issued for the arrest of Pol Col Thitisan and six other suspects. Five of them were apprehended. (TNA)
