BANGKOK, Aug 11 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha met Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, and confirmed Thailand’s cooperation with the US.
The meeting occurred at Thai Khu Fah Building at 11am as Ms Thomas-Greenfield paid a visit to the country as the guest of the Foreign Ministry.
Both exchanged opinions on situations in Myanmar. Gen Prayut who is also the defence minister confirmed that Thailand was ready to cooperate with the international community and the US to work out sustainable solutions in Myanmar and to offer humanitarian assistance to refugees from the neighboring country.
Gen Prayut and Ms Thomas-Greenfield agreed with efforts to gather human rights and public health assistance for Myanmar people. Concerned organizations of Thailand and the US will discuss the matter in detail.
On the occasion, the Thai prime minister expressed his gratitude for the US’s support for Thailand to cope with its COVID-19 outbreaks. He referred to the US’s donation of 1.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer-BioNTech.
Ms Thomas-Greenfield said the US would donate 1 million more doses to Thailand in the near future and also grant US$5 million to support COVID-19 control in Thailand. (TNA)
