BANGKOK, May 16 (TNA) – The State Railway of Thailand will resume its long-distance and commuter train services on May 18 as the government resolved to further ease its disease control measures concerning the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
SRT governor Nirut Maneephan said the train service resumption would be for non-air-conditioned trains and was set to continue for 30 days.
The resumed services comprise eight trains from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, Ubon Ratchathani, Nong Khai and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. Southern trains will not reach Phatthalung and Songkhla provinces which remain locked down.
Mr Nirut said SRT staff would wear face masks, rubber gloves and face shields, strictly screen passengers and adequately provide alcohol gel.
Social distancing will be applied aboard trains and at stations. Ticket sales will be limited at 50% of all seats and food will not be available on trains to limit the risk of disease transmission. Passengers whose trips would be longer than 3 hours must prepare their own food, he said. (TNA)
