BANGKOK, Dec 20 (TNA) – The Revenue Department plans to impose its e-business tax in fiscal 2021 to tax about 170,000 online vendors.
Revenue Department director-general Ekniti Nitithanprapas said the e-Business tax was aimed at taxing e-business operators who were based outside Thailand but ran their business in the country. It was intended to create fairness for the operators who already registered their taxation with the department, he said.
The e-business tax bill was being scrutinized by the Council of State and would be submitted to the House of Representatives for its passage, Mr Ekniti said.
“The law may be promulgated in September 2020 and the taxation will start in fiscal 2021. About 4 billion baht worth of the e-business tax should be collected in the first year,” he said.
According to the Revenue Department chief, more than 100,000 online vendors who operate via Facebook have not registered themselves with the department for taxation. The department will set up a new division to track them.
Next year the department expects to register about 170,000 online vendors. (TNA)
