BANGKOK, Nov 6 (TNA) — Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai said he was unaware of the report that former Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rainsy sought to enter Cambodia through Thailand and that Thailand must not be used to launch any foreign political movement.
After a cabinet meeting, Mr Don responded to the report that Mr Sam Rainsy sent a letter to the Thai embassy in Paris to seek permission from Prime Minister/Defence Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to arrive in Thailand on Thai Airways International (THAI) flight TG931 on Nov 8 so that he could travel on to Poi Pet city of Cambodia on the following day that is the Independence Day of Cambodia.
Mr Don said that he neither knew about the report nor saw a ticket of THAI relevant to it.
Regarding the report that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, during the ASEAN Summit, sought cooperation to block the arrival of Mr Sam Rainsy, Mr Don said the issue was not raised during the summit but he could not confirm if it was discussed in any unofficial meeting.
The foreign minister declined to comment on the Cambodian government’s operations against Mr Sam Rainsy’s network along the Thai-Cambodian border.
He only said that Thailand and neighbouring countries shared the same standpoint that they did not want their countries to be used as a base for any foreign political movement.
Mr Don said nothing when reporters asked him to confirm that Mr Sam Rainsy would not arrive in Thailand. (TNA)
