BANGKOK, Sept 25 (TNA) – The Royal Thai Navy holds an
exhibition devoted for the royal barge procession on October 24 when His
Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn will attend a royal merit-making as part of
his coronation.
The exhibition was opened on Wednesday at ICONSIAM by
Commander of the Royal Thai Navy Admiral Leuchai Ruddit.
Following the opening ceremony, naval officers put on an
intricate show simulating the royal barge procession of 52 ceremonial barges
and boats along the Chao Phraya River for the King to travel from Wasukri pier
to Wat Arun Ratchawararam temple.
Rehearsals of the elaborate royal procession have been
underway for months.
Admiral Luechai said the one-of-a-kind royal barge
procession was a national treasure dated by to the Ayutthaya period more than
300 years ago. This exhibition was a
celebration of the unique “art form on water surface,” he said.
In the past, the royal barge processions provided a means of
transport for the monarch during important occasions, such as the coronation.
Divided into three sections, the admission-free exhibition
is opened for the public until October 24. (TNA)
