BANGKOK, Sept 12 (TNA) — The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) introduces its “Awesome Muay Thai” guidebook to promote Thailand’s tourism using its Muay Thai boxing camps, courses, stadiums, equipment and everything relating to the indigenous sport to attract visitors.
TAT’s product director Thapanee Kiatpaiboon said TAT was using the global trend of sports tourism and Thailand’s outstanding Muay Thai boxing was a strength for tourism promotion to attract visitors, especially those who were interested in sports and martial arts.
Neighbouring countries were competitive for their natural tourist attractions but they were not the origin of Muay Thai which was gaining popularity among foreigners, she said. More foreigners were learning Muay Thai and that was evident at about 5,000 Muay Thai camps nationwide, she said.
According to her, sports tourism generates national income worth about 100 billion baht annually and that accounts for 5% of total revenue from tourism. The promotion of Muay Thai can increase the percentage to 10.
The “Awesome Muay Thai” book gathers information about Muay Thai camps of all levels as well as their histories, statuses and trainers. It also contains QR codes leading to the locations of 76 leading Muay Thai camps in the country.
There is also information about suppliers of Muay Thai-related products, hotels and spa parlours.
