TRANG, Aug 28 (TNA) – Four hundreds of tiger orchids,
believed to be the world’s largest orchid species, are in bloom at a plant
propagation center in Thailand’s southern Trang province.
Grammatophyllum Speciosum orchid that lives among the
branches of tall trees in the rainforests of Thailand and other countries in
Southeast Asia has attracted visitors to the Trang’s Plant Propagation Center
Number 2.
Some flower twigs reach nearly two meters in length as the
orchids are in full bloom, normally from June to August.
The Center officials said that due to lack of rain the
flowers opened quite late and the number dropped by half.
However, the scent of the colorful orchid floating on the
breeze impresses every visitor and pollinating bee.
The center grows tiger orchids, also known as the giant
orchid or queen of the orchid as well as Wan Petchaheung in Thai, to distribute
them to local farmers.(TNA)
