BANGKOK, July 15 (TNA) – Former transport minister Chadchart Sittipunt may be nominated as Pheu Thai Party’s candidate for the Bangkok Governor election later this year.
Secretary-General of Pheu Thai Party, Anudit Nakhonthap said the party will select a suitable and competent party member to contest in the Bangkok governor election instead of looking for an outsider because there are many members, who are capable for doing the top job.
Party executive will later hold a meeting to select the party’s candidate, he said.
Anudit said he personally thought that Chatchart, a key leader of the party is the most suitable person with his experience and qualifications.
If Chadchart agrees to contest in the Bangkok governor election, the party will be ready to support him, the party’s secretary-general said.
His comment came after unconfirmed reports that the ruling Palang Pracharat Party (PPRP) approached former Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osotthanakorn, a key figure behind the high-profile Tham Luang cave rescue mission to have him as the party’s candidate in Bangkok governor election.
Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, a PPRP deputy spokesman denied the report, saying the selection of the Bangkok Governor candidate would be later discussed after the government declares a government policy statement in parliament. (TNA)
