BANGKOK, June 6 (TNA) – Future Forward Party leader, Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit apologized for failing to stop the continuation of power by the military regime after Gen Prayut Chanocha was elected as a prime minister during the parliamentary vote on Wednesday.
Gen Prayut received 500 votes from the appointed Senate and lawmakers from the elected Lower House, beating Future Forward Party leader Thanathorn, who got 244 votes.
After the vote, Thanathorn apologized to the people in a press conference that he could not complete his mission to stop the National Council for Peace and Order from clinging on to power.
“We did not lose but we have been robbed of victory,” he said.
Seven anti-military political parties fought till the end under the rule by the coup makers. This is only a battlefield of the long journey to the democracy in Thailand. He strongly believes the people will win in the end, he said.
He told people not to give up their hope. He would continue to campaign for creative politics and the people would decide for themselves in the next election. He thanked for all votes for him in the parliament and all supports from the people across the country.
While answering media question, he praised Siripong Angkasakulkiat, a Bhumjaithai MP for Si Sa Ket, who had abstained from voting for Prime Minister as the bravest MP in the parliament yesterday. – (TNA)
