BANGKOK, June 3 (TNA) – Police from the Bang Sue station inspected Soi 3/2 of the Project 25 zone at the Chatuchak market that caught fire yesterday. The zone was cordoned off for public safety.
More than 100 shops were damaged there and only their steel structures remained. Most products were destroyed, including garments and handicrafts. Damage had yet to be estimated. Affected vendors were inspecting their shops and officials would gather their names to prepare for initial assistance.
Pol Col Chumpol Chanchanayothin, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Division 2, said police were questioning vendors and investigating the cause of the fire. Police presumed that it resulted from a short circuit as vendors might have connected too many electrical devices to a power supply outlet and an overloaded circuit caused too much heat. Local authorities planned to regulate power consumption there.
The fire at the market prompted the deployment of more than 10 fire engines and fire fighters took about an hour to extinguish it. There were no casualties. Vendors told police that the fire started at a garment shop when all shops there were closed. (TNA)
