BANGKOK, May 15 (TNA) – Jurin Laksanavisit was elected as the new and 8th leader of the Democrat Party.
The party held a meeting for the election at its headquarters at 10am. Mr Jurin was among four candidates. The others were Pirapan Salirathavibhaga, Korn Chatikavanij and Apirak Kosayodhin. Each of them had 15 minutes to air their visions to the gathering of 291 party members.
The party used electronic voting machines of the Election Commission. The voting comprised two parts. The first part involved the votes of 52 Democrat MPs whose votes carried 70% weight. The rest 30% weight of the voting came from the votes of former Democrat MPs, former Democrat executives and chiefs of its branches.
Mr Jurin won in both categories of voting, receiving 50.59% of all votes, followed by Mr Pirapan with 37.22%, Mr Korn with 8.49% and Mr Apirak with 3.70%. (TNA)
