CHIANG MAI, May 14 (TNA) – A Japanese-themed tour park has
been selected by the Culture Ministry as one of Thailand’s top 10 cultural
destinations, leaving many bewildered of the selection criteria.
Hinoki Land in Chiang Mai is the only location on Thailand’s
Top 10 Cultural Destinations that is not inspired by local cultural heritage.
Other nine popular places ranging from a botanical garden to
architectural museum illustrate Thai culture.
But why this Hinoki Land, say many Chiang Mai residents.
Local cultural groups have questioned the ministry’s
criteria in selecting these places.
The Ministry’s Cultural Promotion Office has announced the
names and indicated that it aims to encourage the general public to promote
cultural heritage at both local and national levels.
However, Hinoki Land owner Anirut Jungprasertying welcomed
the honour to his creation for Thai people to savour Japanese culture.
The Ministry’s list also includes Doi Tung in Chiang Rai, Jim Thompson Farm in
Nakhon Ratchasima, the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden in Chon Buri, the Buffalo
Village in Suphan Buri, Woodland Muangmai in Nakhon Pathom, Ancient City in
Samut Prakan, the Siam Niramit theatre in Bangkok and the Fantasea theatre in
Phuket. (TNA)
