SA KAEO, May 13 (TNA) – Around ten thousand Cambodians have flocked to Thailand for travelling through a border checkpoint in Sa Kaeo during Cambodia’s three-day National Holiday from May 13-15.
The Aranyaprathet border checkpoint was crowded on Sunday, prompting Thai immigration officials to open its full facilities to accommodate Cambodian holidaymakers.
Cambodian children and the elderly were moved to special immigration lanes of Thai nationals for speedy processes.
A Cambodian interpreter made announce through a megaphone to arrange forming orderly queues.
The Cambodian government announced the three-day national holiday from May 13-15 to celebrate the Royal Birthday of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Baromneath Norodom Sihamoni, the King of Cambodia.
Plus weekend, it becomes the five-day holiday in total.
Pol.Col. Benjapol Rodsawat, superintendent of the Sa Kaeo immigration office said that most Cambodia travellers, entering Thailand were civil servants and high-end tourists, who were bound for popular tourist sites in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket.
It is expected they will spend at least 100 million baht in Thailand for tourism. (TNA)
