BANGKOK, April 29 (TNA) — The Department of Medical Services started its training on the medical use of marijuana for medical personnel.
Dr Atthasit Srisubat, director of the department’s Institute of Medical Research and Technology Assessment, said about 200 doctors, dentists and pharmacists attended the first class of the training on April 29 and 30 and trainees would be authorized to prescribe marijuana for medical purposes.
According to him, the training focused on basic knowledge about marijuana, a new law that permits its medical use, its medical benefits, the diseases that can be treated with marijuana, the diseases that cannot be treated with it and the prevention of marijuana abuse for recreation.
Later trainees must pass evaluations and then apply for licenses for marijuana prescription for medical purposes from the Food and Drug Administration.
The department planned to organize six classes of the training and the last class would be concluded in September, Dr Atthasit said. (TNA)
