BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) – Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn stressed that marijuana was allowed to be used only for medical purposes, responding to reports on an idea to include marijuana in Thai desserts.
Marijuana offered medical benefits as it contained two substances that were tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), Dr Piyasakol said.
According to him, CBD can be used to treat epilepsy and some neurological problems including Parkinson’s disease while THC creates psychological effects and is addictive. Other countries use only CBD.
Marijuana would not be allowed for recreational or other purposes. That would be banned at least in the next 1-2 years, the minister said.
The United States allowed marijuana consumption but that caused traffic problems because motorists there drove under the influence of marijuana, Dr Piyasakol said. (TNA)
