BANGKOK, April 6 (TNA) – Thai people observe Chakri Memorial Day today to celebrate the founding of the Chakri dynasty, which dates back to more than two centuries when the capital city Bangkok was established.
In the central province of Nakhon Sawan, the provincial governor led civil servants and the general public in laying flowers and gave a speech in honouring King Rama I, the founder of the Chakri Dynasty and in gratitude for all kings’ contributions to the country.
In Trat province, the provincial governor offered flowers in honour of King Rama I. A merit-making ceremony was conducted for the monarchs of the Chakri Dynasty.
Chakri Day commemorates the establishment of the Chakri Dynasty by Phra Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke or King Rama I in 1782.
This year, April 6 falls on a weekend, so the following Monday will be taken as a substitute holiday. (TNA)
