BANGKOK, March 24 (TNA) — The chairman of the Election Commission inspected polling units, expected an 80% turnout and predicted unofficial voting results would be made known within 8pm on Sunday.
Ittiporn Boonpracong, the EC chairman, inspected polling units Nos. 25-27 of Constituency 6 at Suan Bua School in Phaya Thai district of Bangkok. He voted at the polling unit No. 26 together with many other people.
The EC chairman invited people to heed the remark of King Rama IX on supporting good people to govern.
On Saturday night, all television stations repeated the rare statement by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
The statement recalled comments by late king Bhumibol Adulyadej from 1969 calling for people to “support good people to govern the society and control the bad people” to prevent them from “creating chaos”.
Mr Ittiporn also said that 92,320 polling units opened for voters and he expected a high turnout of 80%.
He advised people to go to vote early because rainstorms were predicted in some areas. He ordered election officials to include all voters who showed up within 5pm although they were queuing outside polling units.
Mr Ittiporn said unofficial results of vote counts nationwide would be reported within 8pm and the EC would announce official results on May 9 as scheduled. In the afternoon the EC chairman inspected election in Ubon Ratchathani province. (TNA)
