BANGKOK, Feb 7 (TNA) – The Metropolitan Police will spray water from 11 bridges over the Chao Phraya River in a bid to reduce the PM2.5 particulate matter.
Although the air quality in Bangkok and surrounding has much improved from last week, many agencies are still working to contain the dust.
In the latest move, Pol Lt Gen Suthipong Wongpin, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau said that police will run water-spraying equipment from 11 bridges.
The test at the Memorial Bridge on Feb 1 showed that the water mist did not pose any danger on river travels. He said it is effective as the bridge is high and the wind blows the water mist to bring down the dust.
After testing water spraying equipment, agencies concerned saw a satisfactory result with a drop of the PM2.5 particulate matter by 20 per cent.
The installation of the water spraying system at all 11 bridges will be finished by Friday.
Police officers will then be deployed to operate the water spraying system. Initially, it will run one and a half hours three times during the day and it will be opened for the whole night when there will be less traffic.
All 11 bridges are Rama VI Bridge, Krung Thon Bridge, Rama VIII Bridge, Phra Pinklao Bridge, Memorial Bridge or Phra Phuttha Yondfa Bridge, Taksin Bridge, Phra Pok Klao Bridge, RamaIII Bridge, Krungthep Bridge, RamaIX Bridge, Bhumibol 1 Bridge. (TNA)
