BANGKOK, Jan 30 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut
Chan-o-cha has stressed the need to implement his 20-year national strategy
plan to lay foundation for the country’s development.
Gen Prayut made the remark at the annual conference “Our
Country Our Future” at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani on Wednesday.
His government has introduced the 20-year national strategy
plan which has drawn criticism since the Constitution obliges future government
to adhere to the strategy.
Prayut reiterated that the national strategy was the way
forward for Thailand’s escape from the middle-income trap and social equality.
This grand strategy was vital for the country’s future,
based on Pracharat principle, he said.
Pracharat is a term introduced by Prayut referring to
collaboration between people, private sector and state.
Constitutionally, future prime ministers must chair the
National Strategy Committee to implement the grand strategy. Cabinet members could be impeached if they
refuse to comply with it.
Some political parties have vowed to scrap the strategy they
say written with limited public participation.
For three years since the 20-year national strategy has been
introduced, Prayut has tried to rally support for it with the goals to move out
of the middle-income and high economic growth.
The conference on Wednesday was organised by the National
Economic and Social Development Board to promote public relations of the grand
schemes. (TNA)
