BANGKOK, Jan 30 (TNA) — Schools in Bangkok will be closed on Jan 31 and Feb 1 due to excessive dust particles.
Government spokesman Buddhipongse Punnakanta said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered the closure of about 450 public and private schools in Bangkok for the sake of public health. However, school management were allowed to decide if they should postpone classes for Prathom 6 and Mathayom 3 students who would do the Ordinary National Educational Test (O-NET).
“During the two days of school closure plus the weekend, the government will have all relevant organizations solve fine dust particles at their best. Water spraying and dust cleaning will expand and dust at construction sites will be addressed,” the government spokesman said.
Besides, the prime minister ordered governors of adjacent provinces to consider school closure and strictly control dust.
The National Environment Board would meet next week to discuss other solutions, Mr Buddhipongse said. (TNA)
