BANGKOK, June 21 (TNA) – Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed pride as Thailand continues to be a top destination for tourists, with Bangkok being named the Best City and Koh Samui the Best Island in the Asia-Pacific region by Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards 2024.
Chai Wacharonke, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that the Prime Minister places high importance on developing Thailand’s tourist attractions to be beautiful, comfortable, and accessible, aiming to position Thailand as a tourism hub and a top destination for global travelers.
He celebrated Thailand’s achievements in the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2024 by Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Macau. Koh Samui was awarded the Best Island in Asia Pacific, and Samui Airport was ranked fourth in the Best Airports in Asia-Pacific category.
Additionally, Bangkok secured the top spot as the Best City in Asia-Pacific. These accolades reflect the capabilities of Thailand’s tourism industry in providing both beauty and convenience, creating memorable experiences for tourists.
The Prime Minister’s spokesperson noted that Travel + Leisure is a leading travel and lifestyle magazine in Asia, awarding hotels and other travel-related categories in the Asia-Pacific region.
The magazine’s awards are based on surveys and reader votes, with more than 200,000 votes cast between January and March 2024. Readers chose Koh Samui as the best island, with the magazine highlighting the island’s charm, small bungalows, fishing villages, thousands of coconut trees, and stunning natural beauty, making it one of the most visited destinations in Thailand. Additionally, Samui Airport was recognized as the fourth best airport.
Bangkok was named the best city in Asia-Pacific, with the magazine describing it as a vibrant city full of diversity, from street food to fine dining, lively nightlife, and a mix of spiritual sites like temples, palaces, and cultural elements.
