BANGKOK, Jan 23 (TNA) – Four workers were killed and six others
injured in a crane accident at a condominium construction site on Rama3 Road in
Bangkok on Wednesday.
The accident at Lumpini Place Rama 3 Riverine occurred at
around noon when the top part of the crane detached and fell on the fifth floor
of the structure as workers began their lunch break.
Four male workers were instantly killed. The six injured
workers were rushed to nearby hospitals.
One of the injured workers was stranded on the broken crane
at the height of 10-storey building. He
was safely rescued.
Suthat Rujinarong, the Yannawa district chief inspected the
accident site and ordered halting all construction activities and cordoning off
the area.
He said the crane collapsed while being installed for use.
It could be some error during the crane set-up, so the crane fell down onto
workers.
Police said preliminary examination showed the 35-storey
building project on Rama 3 Road began five months ago. The construction of this
building has been completed for 13 floors.
Bangkok city officials said the crane operator would be
charged for failing to obtain a permit from the city’s civil engineering
office.(TNA)
