CHIANG RAI, DEC 13 (TNA) – Thai authorities arrest a human
trafficking gang while trying to smuggle illegal migrant workers into the
country.
Twenty six illegal migrant workers from Myanmar were found crammed
on two pick-up trucks, travelling from Chiang Rai for Bangkok.
The two drivers and their assistants, all are residents of
Chiang Rai, have been charged with human trafficking.
Immigration offices of Phichit and Phitsanulok and police
coordinated in intercepting the smuggling attempt as the two trucks were on a
highway linking Phichit and Phetchabun.
Police officers said the smugglers tried to avoid
authorities and traffic checkpoints by taking secondary highways to transport
the migrant workers.
The workers each paid the smugglers about Bt12,000, hoping
to find jobs at construction sites in Bangkok, police said. (TNA)
