SONGKHLA, Nov 26 (TNA) – Thai authorities seize two
Vietnamese fishing boats and arrest 13 crew members on charges of illegal
fishing in Thai waters.
An undercover vessel “Poseidon” of the Fishery Department
seized the boats while encroaching in the Gulf of Thailand, 125 nautical miles
off Songkhla province on Sunday.
All of the 13 Vietnamese fishermen have been transferred to
Songkhla police for prosecutions on four charges.
Head of the Department’s taskforce against illegal fishery
Charoen Ohmanee said the Department in coordination with the Royal Thai Navy
had conducted intensive operation to suppress illegal fishing in the Thai
waters.
A number of Vietnamese
vessels had continued to trespass into Thailand’s territorial waters; two
trawlers with 15 crewmembers were just arrested last week, he said. (TNA)
