BANGKOK, Nov 26 (TNA) — Digital Economy and Society Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj on Monday led representatives from four major telecommunication industries to tour the Kasetsart University, Si Racha campus with the aim of establishing the first 5G trials in Thailand.
These included company representatives from Ericsson, Hua Wei, Nokia Networks and Dassault.
After the tour a session, they have discussed the preparations for setting up equipment and systems that will be needed for the trials and what contributions each company would be able to provide.
He told the representatives from the four companies that the government want to speed up 5G, the fifth generation of cellular mobile communications in the country.
The preliminary steps to launch a 5G TestBed which will involve the cooperation of state agencies and both foreign and local operators.
Therefore, educational institutions, research and development organisations, startups and telecommunication companies and platform and software developers involvement is vital. If this is accomplished, then, Thailand will become one of the global leaders in 5G technological innovation, not to mention one of the largest 5G TestBeds in the region.
Kasetsart University at Si Racha has been selected as the first 5G TestBed in the country in view of its close proximity to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and the first trials are scheduled to begin by mid-2019.
These initial trials will test 5G Use Cases involving Tele-Medicine, Smart Manufacturing, Smart Buses and Autonomous Vehicles. (TNA)
