BANGKOK, Oct 12 (TNA) – The cabinet has ordered the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to review its bill intended to have owners register their dogs and cats and fine those who fail to do so.
The requirement is part of an animal protection bill which imposes a pet registration fee and a fine on those who fail to register their pets. Reports on the cabinet’s recent approval for the bill raise widespread concern among many parties.
The concern prompted the cabinet to later order the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to withdraw the bill and review it with relevant organizations including the Council of State before resubmitting it to the cabinet.
The bill was aimed at guaranteeing proper care for pets and discouraging owners from abandoning them in the way that would cause rabies to spread.
The Department of Livestock Development is sounding out opinions from people and organizations so that the bill will be practical. (TNA)
