BANGKOK, Oct 9 (TNA) – Labour Minister Adul Sangsingkeo said 279 Thai people planned to be illegal migrant workers abroad in September and most of them, 243, intended to go to South Korea.
According to the minister, the Department of Employment canceled the planned trips of the 279 people in September. They admitted to planning to go for work in other countries. About 87% of them or 243 people intended to leave for South Korea while others planned to fly to Bahrain, China and Russia.
Pol Gen Adul also said 6,327 job seekers departed through the checkpoint of the department at Suvarnabhumi airport. The lion’s share of them (38%), 2,381 people, was destined for Taiwan. Other popular destinations were Japan, South Korea and Israel.
The labour minister said the Department of Employment deployed its officials at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports to block illegal Thai workers from leaving the country. It also looked for illegal job brokers who were preying on job seekers, he said. (TNA)
