NARATHIWAT, Dec 25 (TNA) – Heavy flooding in Narathiwat Province has led the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to announce suspension of all train services on the southern line from Yala to Narathiwat.
The SRT has suspended the rail service from Narathiwat’s Sungai Kolok to Yala due to damaged rail tracks in the Tan Yong Mas-Pa Phai section, affected by the flood. This disruption affects all trains from Sungai Kolok to Yala.
Passengers traveling by express and rapid trains from Sungai Kolok to Bangkok will be serviced from the Yala Railway Station, and transportation of passengers will be arranged by road vehicles.
The flooding, caused by torrential rain, has affected Narathiwat’s all nine districts. As of this morning, water levels have submerged the main route of Tan Yong Mas-Narathiwat, prompting authorities to prohibit small vehicles from traveling.
Residents in Ra-ngae district revealed that the recent heavy rainfall caused rapid flooding from the mountains into the village overnight. Villagers had to quickly move their belongings to higher ground, but the substantial volume of water resulted in significant damage to their belongings.
Currently, continuous rainfall is causing water levels to rise rapidly. Water levels are reaching 1-2 meters, causing some houses to have flooded roofs. The current water levels are considered the most severe in the past 40 years, and many households are in a critical situation as no relief efforts have been initiated.
More than 50 households are in distress, and there is concern that continuous rainfall will exacerbate the situation. Urgent assistance is requested from relevant authorities to evacuate residents in the affected areas, especially those with children and bedridden patients.
In total, 9,558 households and 37,901 individuals have been affected in Narathiwat Province. – 819 (TNA)
