BANGKOK, Sept 21 (TNA) – A House committee plans to return a civil partnership bill to the House for its deliberation in the second and third readings in November, according to the spokesman of the panel.
Tankhun Jitt-itsara, spokesman for the special House committee scrutinizing the civil partnership bill, said the committee intended to finish its scrutiny within this week as the work already reached a provisional clause of the bill.
The clause will require the government to adjust about 70 laws concerning married couples of people of different genders to support civil partnership within 180 days after the civil partnership bill is promulgated.
After working out the adjustments, governmental organizations concerned would propose the changes for the cabinet to proceed with relevant law amendments, he said.
If the parliament passes the bill, Thailand will be the first Asian nation to allow people of all genders to have their civil partnership registered, Mr Tankhun said. (TNA)
