BANGKOK, Aug 16 (TNA) — Thai operators have growth potential in the meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE) industry, said Supachai Panitchpakdi, former director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Mr Supachai made his remark on Thursday while delivering a speech on “Regional Connectivity: Thailand MICE’s Opportunity” in the MICE Talk 2019 organized by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau.
MICE had room to grow in Thailand and operators in the MICE industry should operate in key industrial zones such as the Eastern Economic Corridor and focus on foreign direct investment, he said.
Besides, Mr Supachai said, the operators must pay attention to business trends, long-term business plans and international cooperation.
According to him, Thailand has advantages in the MICE industry regarding its geographical location linking Southeast Asia and other regions, its business capabilities and its investments of international standard.
The International Institute for Management Development of Switzerland ranked Thailand 25th in the world and third in Southeast Asia for its economic competitiveness and Bloomberg considered Thailand as the least miserable economy of the world for two consecutive years, Mr Supachai said. (TNA)
