UTTARADIT, Aug 6 (TNA) – A team of students at a
university in the northern province of Uttaradit innovate bio flower pots made
of durian peels.
Discarded and unwanted durian peels are now useful materials
for valuable products that help cutting costs and fighting global warming, say
the students of Science and Technology Faculty, Uttaradit Rajabhat University.
The four-student team came up with the solution to turn
wastes into biodegradable pots after they were assigned to research on durian
peels.
Finely shredded durian peel is mixed with mucilage before
getting molded in plastic pot, the students explained.
Isaraphap Thepkrissana, one of the team members, said durian
peel bio pot absorbed water very well, therefore it helped save water.
The whole pot could be transplanted into soil because it was
biodegradable and pollution-free, he said.
Students’ advisor Dr Supaporn Pongthonpruek said the project
offered an excellent solution to large amount of wastes in Uttaradit, home to
hundreds of durian orchards.
Interested farmers and communities were welcomed to learn
how make bio pot from durian peels, she added. (TNA)
