BANGKOK, Aug 1 (TNA) — The chairman of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation met Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and sought promotional privileges for its electric vehicle manufacturing project and battery production.
Osamu Masuko, chairman of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, informed Mr Somkid of his company’s automobile manufacturing in Thailand and its plan to invest 25 billion yen in a project to produce plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles in the country in the next few years.
He told Mr Somkid that the electric vehicle trend prompted Mitsubishi to come up with the plan and it sought promotional privileges for the investment and also for the manufacturers of batteries that would support its electric vehicle production.
Mr Masuko also asked the Thai government to stabilize the value of baht.
Meanwhile, Kobsak Pootrakul, deputy secretary-general to the prime minister, said the United States Federal Reserve’s decision to cut its benchmark lending rate by 0.25% would make Thailand a destination of investors who were shifting from the US and that could further strengthen the value of baht.
