NAKHON NAYOK, Aug 1 (TNA) — The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on Wednesday organized an event to honor the work of park rangers on the occasion of the World Ranger Day on July 31.
Varawut Silpa-archa, the minister of natural resources and environment, presided over the event at the Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Nayok province. Park rangers and executives of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Royal Forest Department and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources attended the event.
Mr Varawut told park rangers there that they could tell him whatever they wanted and he would meet their needs because he intended to take good care of park rangers.
The International Ranger Federation initiated the World Ranger Day in the World Ranger Congress in Scotland in 2006 to honor park rangers’ devotion to protect natural resources.
There are 20,644 park rangers in Thailand. The event at the Khao Yao National Park included a parade of 650 park rangers, a ceremony to remember and honor dead park rangers, a relevant exhibition, a discussion on park rangers’ experiences and a demonstration of park rangers’ weapons. (TNA)
