BANGKOK, Oct 7 (TNA) — The minister of natural resources and environment has ordered park officials to maintain old barricades at the Haew Narok waterfall where six wild elephants fell and drowned.
Minister Varawut Silpa-archa said that he ordered the Department of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to maintain barriers at Haew Narok as the structures had not been repaired for over three decades old.
The order followed the death of six wild elephants at the waterfall in Na Hin Lad sub-district of Pak Phli district, Nakhon Nayok province, last Saturday.
Privates would be asked to support the repair and sources of water and food would be made for wild elephants there so that the animals would not have to risk approaching the waterfall to feed and drink, Mr Varawut said.
He planned to have such barriers built near other waterfalls for wildlife protection.
Two elephants survived the Saturday’s fall at Haew Narok and park rangers took good care of them, the minister said. (TNA)
