NAKHON PHANOM, July 8 (TNA) – More than 1,600 Thai
traditional dancers take part in a mass dance in the northeastern province of
Nakhon Phanom to honour King of Nagas, the mythical serpent safeguarding the
people in the Mekong River basin.
Nakhon Phanom people and visitors attended the festive
worship rite on Sunday that saw 1,680 dancers and a massive parade of Naga
offerings.
Famous actress Urassaya Sperbund put on the lead
performance, a traditional performing art of Nakhon Phanom called Sri Kotrabun
dance.
Worshippers transported Naga offerings in the parade to Lan
Phraya Srisattanagarat where the seven-day festival takes place.
The sacred spirit of Naga is regarded by the peoples of Thailand
and Laos as supernatural guardian of their welfare.
Other cultural displays, musical shows and rituals that have
shaped the lives Mekong basin people are presented at the event.(TNA)
