BANGKOK, June 29 (TNA) – Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has told his Thai counterpart General Prayut Chan-ocha that he has attached importance to the smart city in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), backed by the latter government, and is confident that it could be implemented in the near future.
Both government leaders met on Friday during the sidelines of the G20, held in Osaka. They agreed that the two countries have enjoyed bilateral cooperation at every level and they ought to sustain developments in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the entire region.
Gen. Prayut thanked Japan in responding that it would join as partner in further developing the Ayeyawady -Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), especially on connectivity of the Southern Economic Corridor and the East West Economic Corridor.
Welcoming Gen. Prayut in being royally appointed as prime minister again, Mr. Abe exchanged ideas with the Thai government leader as Thailand is chairman of ASEAN in 2019 on views of ASEAN towards Indo-Pacific which stresses benefits to every concerned party, especially during the current tension of trade war between the U.S. and China.
Gen. Prayut believed that the current G20 Summit would give advantages to the world and would cushion the impact on uncertain global economy.
Urging Japan to have full confidence toward Thai political stability under his leadership, Gen. Prayut pledged that cooperation between the two nations would be implemented and make headways in the near future.
The three-day Summit ends later Saturday. (TNA)
