BANGKOK, June 21 (TNA) – Thailand’s export in May dropped
5.79% or US$21 billion, due mainly to the US-China trade war, the Commerce
Ministry reports on Friday.
The export contraction in May was caused largely by the
trade tensions between US and China, said Pimchanok Vonkorpon, the Director-General
of Trade Policy and Strategy Office.
Thai exports to China and the US in May dropped US$135
million, or 0.64 percent of the total export value, she said.
Ms Pimchanok also attributed the decline to global financial
conditions and political uncertainty in the EU.
However, Thai agricultural products including food and
beverages still registered continual growth, generating income for farmers and
SMEs, she noted.
In the first five months of this year, Thai exports declined
2.7 per cent, Pimchanok said. (TNA)
