BANGKOK, July 3 (TNA) – Thailand’s headline consumer
price index (CPI) in June fell 1.57% from a year earlier due to the decline in
prices of energy and non-food and beverage products, according to a senior
official of the Commerce Ministry.
Pimchanok Vornkorpon, Director-General of Trade Policy and
Strategy Office (TPSO), said that the headline CPI dropped 1.57 percent, a less
than expected decline. The reading improved from May’s 3.44 percent decline.
The decline of CPI was a result of 2.53 percent drop in
non-food product prices and 16.14 percent of fuel prices, said Ms. Pimchanok.
In the first half of 2020, the headline CPI fell 1.13
percent year-on-year.
The Ministry forecast the headline CPI to fall to minus 1.1
percent, down from the previous forecast at minus 0.6 percent, said the senior
official. (TNA)
